About

Suncoast Searchlight is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit newsroom serving Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties. We dig into the decisions, institutions and issues shaping life on the Suncoast — from local government, schools and public spending to growth, housing and the environment — so residents can understand not just what is happening, but why it matters.

Our reporters specialize in accountability, investigative and explanatory journalism, using public records, data and deep reporting to uncover information that might otherwise go unseen. Our work is free to everyone, with no paywall, and is regularly republished by other news organizations across the region, extending its reach throughout the communities we serve.
